Latest close season news from La Liga
Anelka Turin bound? According to reports in both the Italian and Spanish press Real Madrid could be on the verge of selling controvertial young star Nicholas Anelka. It is reported that Juventus are on the trail of the highly talented but temperamental Frenchman. Vice-President Roberto Bettega and director Luciano Moggi are on their way to the Spanish capital to have formal talks with Madrid President Lorenzo Sanz concerning taking Anelka to Turin to join up with fellow Frenchman Zinedine Zidane. Real Madrid can be certain that the club won't recoup all the money that they paid Arsenal a year ago, but are willing to accept a good offer so that they can bring in fresh faces for next seasons defence of the European Cup. This time last year the two clubs were battling for the services of the moody Frenchman after his bitter departure from Arsenal for £23,000,000UKP and it is thought that the Spanish giants would be prepared to sell him on for around £17,000,000. Anelka was banned, fined and made to publicly apologise after he critisised the Spanish side, claiming that they were not playing to his strengths, earlier this year.
Euro2000 bonus deal agreed The Spanish team are reported to be on £177,000UKP per man to lift the European Nations Cup in this summers competition. Players representatives Raul and Fernando Hierro thrashed out the deal with Spanish officials last weekend, which would also see the Spanish National Coach, Jose Antonio Camacho, pick up a cool £395,000UKP if he were to lead the team to victory. Spain face Norway in their first match of the competition on June 13th.
